Update September 2010
We need your help again
DanceVote 2010 is the national advocacy campaign to put dance on the agenda of politicians. If you love dance – have danced, dance now, want to dance or love watching dance – join us for FREE. Use this website as a QUICK and SIMPLE tool to contact your local politicians and ask them to speak up for dance. We do the work for you - you just have to put in your postcode.
Thank you to all of you who have already supported DanceVote 2010. To read all the DanceVote pledges made by politicians click here.
- Over 1,300 people used this website during the general election.
- This resulted in 85 of the MPs elected in May 2010 pledging to support dance - that's 13% of the total number of MPs.
However, with the drastic spending cuts ahead WE NEED YOUR HELP AGAIN.
Cutting funding for the arts is an easy target when so many important services are threatened. It is vital we communicate to MPs and local councillors RIGHT NOW why funding for dance and the arts matters to local residents, and WHAT WOULD BE LOST from people’s lives if funding is cut.
If you are passionate about dance in any form, GETTING INVOLVED IS EASY, it takes JUST 5 MINUTES. Click here to send a personalised email explaining why your life would be poorer without dance. You will help to strengthen the case that funding for dance provides tangible benefits and value for money in your area.
Matthew Bourne, the world famous choreographer who created the West End and Broadway hit, Swan Lake and choreographed West End shows such as Oliver! and Mary Poppins says: "I'm whole heartedly backing the DanceVote 2010 campaign."
DanceVote 2010 champions all dance, both professional and participatory. It is led by Dance UK, (www.danceuk.org, the national voice for dance) working in partnership with a growing steering committee of leading dance professionals representing diverse backgrounds.
AMAZING DANCE FACTS:
- Dance is the fastest growing art form. A recent Arts Council England review of its regularly funded organisations showed that audience attendances grew by 103% over 12 months.
- Dance has higher audience satisfaction levels than theatre, musicals or opera, according to the latest Society of London Theatre research published in April 2010. 71% of dance attendees rated their experience as "very good", compared to an average of 63% across theatre, musicals, dance and opera.
- The 2010 British film, Streetdance 3D the movie, topped the UK box office when it opened, beating Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe and Disney's summer blockbuster, Prince of Persia. Streetdance 3D took £11 million in its first 5 weeks becoming the most successful lottery funded film ever.
